Will’s Way

Story

1 year ago on the 21st of February, we lost the light of our lives - William Jack de Oliveira. Will was born with a 1 in 15,000 genetic syndrome known as CHARGE. Kids who are born with CHARGE are faced with terrible odds of survival, and many struggle through some incredibly testing and challenging years of their life. One of the hidden features of CHARGE syndrome is the bravery and unwavering strength these children display. Will harnessed these qualities to live every day to its fullest - even towards the end, where he would constantly stick up a thumb of affirmation to tell us that he was ok.

What set little Willy apart from everyone was his cute quirks: namely his funny noises that he made, his ability to use sign language as his primary source of communication, and finally his innate ability to be loved unconditionally by all that were lucky enough to meet him - even when he was being quite the troublemaker. By now I’m sure you can understand: for all the challenges these kids face; they have a strong tendency to look beyond their impediments and live a brave life full of love and happiness.

Last year the Will’s Way team united to raise almost $9000, with 8 people participating in the great race. This year, in memory of our brave little man, we are aiming to go beyond these numbers, and hopefully raise well over $10,000.

Will’s life was significantly prolonged by the skilled and dedicated doctors and staff at the Royal Children’s Hospital. Your donation will ensure that the RCH can continue to provide resources that make kids in similar circumstances to Will, live longer, and happier lives.
